Adirondack--The Hottest New (Old) Trend In Outdoor Furniture

Adirondack Is Back - The Popular New (Old) Fad In Outdoor Furniture!

It's not surprising that a vintage American design such as the Adirondack Chair is making such a comeback in the last couple of years. This retro craze is spreading because folks all around America are choosing to spend more and more free time relaxing and kicking back in a meticulously designed outdoor living space. I myself remember as a 6 year old, sinking all the way back into one of these familiar old chairs, with my feet hanging just over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled apples and talked about the tasty apple pie mounded with vanilla ice cream that we just knew grandma would have for us after supper. I balanced my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was pleasant and warm. Grandpa's stories made time fly. It's really no mystery why we like to relax and unwind outdoors, whether it is in your garden area, on your deck, out on the patio, or sitting on the front porch watch people go by. There just might not be a better way to relax than to sit back in a comfy, high backed, deep seated Adirondack chair and just leave your cares behind.

So where did this piece of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This furniture design was trendy at the numerous vacation resorts and mountain getaways that were so prominent back in those days. By the 1940s adirondack was almost everywhere. The furniture style started to move south and quickly went west. As the Adirondack design began to get more popular, and made its way around the country, regional influences started to show up. The furniture design was utilized in several outdoor furniture styles which include; rocking chairs, benches, gliders, porch swings, and thanks to our French Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which translates literally to; "head to head". This fascinating design incorporates a couple of chairs with a table between them built as one piece. What a perfect way to spend a cozy Saturday afternoon with the one you love!

You'll be satisfied and shocked to find a huge variety of Adirondack style furniture out there now. Not only has the original design stood the test of time, but the Adirondack trend has exploded with a pleasing array of styles, material, finishes, and colors. Traditional Adirondack furniture is constructed from wood that's known to resist insects and deterioration like white or red cedar, cypress, oak, or cherry. The wood that is chosen is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do specific furniture designs. A popular new extra in classical Adirondack is garden furniture built from polymer "lumber" that is literally made from recycled plastic packaging, milk cartons, and other things. Not only is this an environmentally sound way to invest in furniture, but you also have advantages with durableness, longevity, ease of care, and your colors won't eventually fade as the pigments are mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors for added protection.
