How to Find Vinyl Records on the Net

1. Make a wants list -

If you're looking for a large number of items, prepare a detailed list specifying each record by: artist, title, format (45 rpm, EP, LP etc.), along with any other particulars that help identify the item like catalog number, label, condition (the lowest grading you'd accept), country of manufacture (if you only collect US pressings for example). Many record dealers will gladly accept your wants list and actively look for them for you, greatly expanding your searching capabilities.

2. What should you expect to pay? -

Like most collectibles, old records can vary greatly in value. Do a little research by using your favourite Internet search engine (eg. Yahoo) and find out what similar records are being sold for - eg. SpinAuctions Music Collectibles or any number of dealers you will find around the Net.

3. Contact Specialists -

With your list of preferred dealers / contacts prepared, send your wants list to those most likely to specialise in what you're looking for.

4. Notice Boards -

You can also post a general wants list on the many record collecting notice boards to be found on the Net. There are many to be found in Yahoo Groups (record collecting section).
